The Opportunity

My client is a growing and established business operating within the renewable heating and domestic retrofit sector. Due to the mobilisation of a major new renewable heating contract, they are looking to appoint an experienced Contract Manager to take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) and renewable technology installations.

This is a key operational position offering the successful candidate genuine scope to shape the delivery of the contract, manage installation teams and subcontractors, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to the required quality and compliance standards.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the works programme from initial planning and design through to practical completion, commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take end-to-end responsibility for the ASHP installation contract, with accountability for programme, cost, quality and health & safety.

  • Oversee, quality-check and, where required, produce ASHP system designs using manufacturer design software.

  • Cost and prepare quotations for ASHP and renewable heating system designs.

  • Plan and manage installation programmes across multiple properties and sites.

  • Coordinate labour, subcontractors, plant and materials to meet contract milestones.

  • Recruit, brief and manage in-house installation teams and subcontractors.

  • Ensure all operatives hold the appropriate qualifications and certifications.

  • Ensure installations comply with MCS requirements, manufacturer specifications, Building Regulations and relevant retrofit standards, including PAS 2035/2030 where applicable.

  • Manage contract budgets, labour costs, materials and subcontractor accounts.

  • Monitor expenditure, identify variances and forecast future spend.

  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, funding bodies, scheme administrators, DNOs, local authorities and building control.

  • Manage quality issues, defects, customer complaints, snagging and post-installation requirements.

  • Maintain accurate contract, commissioning and compliance records.

  • Report programme progress, risks, costs and KPIs to senior management.

  • Support the tendering and mobilisation of future contracts where required.

About the Candidate

The ideal candidate will have proven experience as a Contract Manager, Site Manager or Installation Manager within domestic retrofit, renewable heating or ASHP installation contracts, ideally working across multiple properties at scale.

Candidates should have:

  • Strong knowledge of MCS certification requirements for ASHP installations.

  • A sound understanding of CDM 2015 and construction health & safety legislation.

  • Strong programme, budget and people-management experience.

  • Experience managing subcontractors and installation teams.

  • A background or strong understanding of plumbing, heating or electrical systems.

  • A full, clean UK driving licence.

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.

  • A commercially focused and practical approach to problem-solving.

  • Good IT skills and confidence using scheduling, reporting and compliance systems.

Desirable

  • SMSTS qualification.

  • An ASHP qualification, such as the LCL Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pump Systems.

  • Experience working on government-funded schemes such as ECO4, GBIS or the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

What’s on Offer?

  • A senior position within a growing renewable heating business.

  • The opportunity to take ownership of a major new renewable heating contract.

  • Genuine scope to influence and shape operational delivery.

  • Company vehicle or car allowance.

  • Ongoing training and professional development.

  • Support towards relevant MCS, PAS 2035 and industry qualifications.

  • Competitive salary and benefits package, dependent on experience.
